    Default Healthcare Data Standards

Interesting article by Keith Boon AKA The Motorcycle Guy about 'Social Interoperability'. Keith is worth following if you are interested in the nerdier side of data exchange and integrations.

As a physician what words or phrases to you use when discussing the sharing of data ? Do the hospitals and Vendors you deal with use different one ?

Do you have any patients asking for their data ? How do they ask ? Have they ever requested a specific format ?

It amazes me how few in the industry have even a clue about Direct connectivity and CCD/C-CDA content formatting. Yet, support of these are requirements for certification for Stage 2 in the 2014 Meaningful Use Edition. We are hoping this knowledge gap closes quickly as we have the infrastructure to support both coming into place. It could be a huge jump-start to interoperability, but it is unclear how many of the major EHR vendors are going to actually make it practical. Some are really starting to talk the talk, but little evidence yet of walking the walk.
